POMA LAUNCHES SPEAKERS BUREAU

POMA Outdoor Speakers Bureau Announced

LAS VEGAS, NV, Feb. 2, 2008 — During a press conference at the 30th Annual Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) announced the launch of the POMA Outdoor Speakers Bureau (POSB).

POMA Chairman Steve Scott (l)
and Wade Boggs (r)

Headlining the event were National Baseball Hall of Fame third baseman Wade Boggs and rock & roll legend Ted Nugent, both noted hunting and conservation advocates. In addition, internationally known outdoor personalities and journalists Craig Boddington, Michael Waddell, Larry Weishuhn, Phil Phillips, Tom Gresham and Bill Miller also were on the dais. Each are included on the POSB speaker roster.

“In the outdoor enthusiast world, there are many well-known and effective communicators who skillfully convey the core outdoor message,” explained Steve Scott, Chairman of the Board of POMA. “At the same time, there are scores of organizations, local chapters and groups associated with the traditional outdoor sports that do not have access to relevant content for meetings and functions.”

“The POMA Outdoor Speakers Bureau will serve as a conduit between the two, providing quality speakers and entertainment for group events, while disseminating the traditional outdoor sports message.”

The goals of POSB are straightforward:

  • To increase revenues and revenue sources for POMA members,
  • To offer POMA members special fees for speaking that are unavailable to non-member speakers,
  • Enhance communication about the traditional outdoor sports and journalistic opportunities in the outdoor industry to our core audience and beyond,
  • Utilize revenues to bolster all POMA membership services and benefits.

"Safari Club International (SCI) is pleased to support this terrific program, said Mark LaBarbera, director of marketing for SCI. We will promote the speakers bureau to our members and all of our 180 chapters by placing a description of the service and a link to POMA's booking Web site on our Web site www.safariclub.org. SCI is proud to be one of only two Diamond Cornerstone Corporate Partners in POMA and to continue to support this journalists organization, which is wholly focused on the traditional outdoor sports.”

Beyond presenting a wide range of programs focused on the shooting sports, fishing, hunting and trapping, POSB also includes speakers with expertise in the field of communications, journalism, marketing and media relations.

These speakers primarily come from POMA’s membership of 350 outdoor industry professionals — writers, editors, broadcasters, photographers, filmmakers, artists and marketing and public relations specialists. Many groups can benefit from engaging one of these powerful and knowledgeable speakers who can motivate and entertain event attendees, while speaking on various aspects of the media, marketing and public relations fields.

In addition to those attending the press conference, numerous other top-rated speakers, experts and celebrity personalities are included on the POSB talent roster, including

  • Fishing great, Jimmy Houston,
  • NFL Pro Bowl tight end Jay Novacek,
  • Field and Stream Deputy Editor Jay Cassell,
  • Olympic Shooting Gold Medalist Matt Emmons,
  • 2007 Grits Gresham Shooting Sports Communicator Award recipient, editor and writer J. Wayne Fears,
  • Outdoor television hosts Steve West and Kim Hicks,
  • Television host and veteran writer Jim Zumbo, and
  • The Outdoor Channel’s Michael Bane.

With the initial talent roster now in place, POMA is actively seeking interesting, exciting and informative experts to fulfill requests for speaking engagements. To apply for speaker status, fill out and return the speaker's application.
