-
What happens after my
application is accepted?
If you haven’t already, provide a
headshot(s), bio and your presentation
topics with a short description of each. The
information will be included in the POSB
talent directory, and will be the most
important element in marketing your
services.
-
What will POSB do for
me?
POSB will provide you with a number of
services, including:
Marketing
- POSB will include your name and bio in the
online talent directory that will be made
available, and marketed to the chapters of
numerous outdoor-related organizations
(NWTF, SCI, WSF, etc) directly. In addition,
POSB will be included in the web presence of
numerous outdoor product manufacturing and
retail businesses.
POSB talent will be searchable in many ways;
alphabetically, by topic, by
region/location, and by fee. The more
information we have on you and your
topic(s), the more likely you are to be
visible to potential clients.
Contract Services -
POSB will provide confidential pricing
information for your services and receive
offers on your behalf, which will be
forwarded to you for your consideration.
When you accept an offer, POSB will finalize
the terms of the contract and hold the
deposit in trust until the engagement is
completed.
If requested, POSB will guide you through
the process to be certain you are familiar
with the details of your engagement.
Logistics -
Depending on the terms of your engagement,
POSB will oversee your travel and
accommodation details; provide an itinerary
and specifics about the engagement; (group,
location, attire, expectations, etc.) verify
the contracted for on-site requirements are
met; provide you contact information for
your on-site host, as well as a POSB
contact; and follow-up to be certain the
engagement was as agreed upon and to gauge
the clients level of satisfaction with the
event.
-
How do I set my fee?
That is up to you, but ultimately, the
market will determine your worth. If your
fee is too high, you will not have many
offers. If it is too low, you will have many
offers for engagements; probably too many.
It is often better to start with a lower
rate, and adjust from there. However, keep
in mind the minimum POSB talent fee is $500.
-
What is POSB’s fee for
services, and how do I get paid?
POSB receives 40 percent of the contract fee
(excluding travel, accommodations, etc.)
from non POMA members. POSB receives 30
percent of the contract fee from POMA
members. So, there is great financial
benefit to speakers who also are POMA
members.
Typically, half of the fee is paid upon
signing to bind the contract, and half is
paid upon completion of your presentation.
You will receive the balance of the payment
from the organization when you finish your
presentation, and the balance of the net fee
due will then be sent to you by POSB.
-
Who determines the
details of my engagement?
You do…along with the engaging party.
Details such as class of travel, level of
accommodations, meal allowance, etc., are
determined in the negotiation of the booking
agreement. Some bookings are easy and
require little effort on your part, such as
a speech in your hometown. Others involve
more time and logistical coordination, such
as a seminar in South Africa. In order to be
induced to accept these more involved type
of engagements, you may ask for, and
receive, greater benefits, i.e., first class
airfare, higher fee, etc.. But be sure this
is agreed upon BEFORE the contract is
signed.
-
May I sell books/CDs/DVDs
(backroom sales) at the event?
Backroom sales are determined by the
contract between you and the organization,
and should be negotiated as one of the terms
in advance.
